2010 Quilting Challenge
Block of the Month members can become part of the “2010 Chick-It-Out Quilters Challenge.” Purchase a pattern at the library for $1.25 and let your creative juices and quilting talents get to work to make a quilt or wallhanging. We will display your project as long as the chicksare here. Consider donating your project to the gift shop atthe Children’s Farm in Palos Park as a thank you fordonating eggs to the library. Stop by the Adult ServicesDepartment for more information.
2010 Needlemania Challenge
Needlemania members can be part of Chick-It-Out! Grab a pattern at the April meeting to knit or crochet a cute chick and donate your creation to the Youth Services Department for their Afternoon with the Chicks program.

Peep Diorama Contest (All Ages Welcome to Join!) Bring your diorama to the Youth Services Department April 19-23. Winners will be announced at Afternoon with the Chicks onMay 15. See an example of one in the library’s display case!

Afternoon with the Chicks! Saturday, May 15, 1 p.m. The Youth Services Department will show a movie, make acraft, and give people the opportunity to hold a chick. A signedfood permission slip is required to make the chick cookie craft.All patrons who want to hold a chick must sign a permissionslip. Patrons under the age of 18 must have a parent/guardiansign.

We can't have a real Mama Hen to sit on the eggs in the library, so we have an incubator to keep the eggs warm. An incubator is a heated container used to hatch eggs.

The eggs!
The eggs were laid by a hen. The eggs are fertile..meaning a baby chick could hatch from them. They are different then the eggs that you would buy at a store. The eggs that you buy from a store are not fertile.

The incubator keeps the eggs warm while the baby chicks grows inside the egg. The temperature inside the incubator is 100 degrees!

Mrs. Van contacted author Terry Golson who donated a copy of Tillie Lays An Egg to the library for a raffle prize in exchange for a Chick-It-Out t-shirt. The autographed copy of the book will be given away at our special Chick-It-Out program on May 2nd at 1 p.m.
Peep Diorama Contest
All Ages- Create a diorama (a box with a scene in it) using Peeps & other materials. Use your creativity & imagination!! Drop off dioramas during the week of April 20 -25. Winners will be announced at the Afternoon with the Chicks on May 2nd.
